2010)
-
Jackson Square.
Located at the French Quarter,
“flanked by St. Louis Cathedral, the antebellum Pontalba
apartment buildings, and the Mississippi River, post-card
pretty Jackson Square has been the hub of New Orleans life
since the city’s colonial start.”.
-
Bourbon Street. “Crude
and crass,
New Orleans’
most famous entertainment strip isn’t to everyone’s taste,
but you have to see it at least once – preferably under the
nighttime neon lights.”
Mingled with the clubs, you will also
find local jazz musicians, elegant restaurants, and famed
faded bars.
-
St. Charles Avenue Streetcar.
It follows the same route of the 1835 steam
trains, then roll along oak-shaded median through some of
New
Orleans’ most exclusive
addresses. Stops include Audubon Park, the Garden District,
and the Riverbend shopping district.
-
Garden District –
beautiful historical homes and mansions, famous restaurants,
and wonderful shops and cafes line busy Magazine Street.
-
The Parks – two
impressive urban parks - Audubon Park (sports
waterfowl-filled lagoons, a world-class zoo, and great views
of the river) and City Park (home to the
New Orleans’
Museum of Art and Botanical Gardens).
-
French Market – A
great place to pick up Mardi Gras beads and hot sauces.
Lots of fun, especially on the weekends.
-
Plantation Country –
many stately old plantation homes have been meticulously
restored, filled with period furnishings and opened to the
public.
